“There’s lots more to come” for Mass Effect, reveals Casey Hudson – in a Starbucks

News: It’s amazing what you can get out of a game developer when you serve him coffee, as one lucky fellow found out when Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson walked into his Starbucks.

Getting new information out of a games industry professional can be torture for a journalist. They’ve usually been well-prepped before an interview on what can and cannot be discussed, and Public Relations folk hover just out of your eye-line ready to jump in if questions stray from the agreed parameters. It can often lead to a blood/stone sort of situation.

Clearly the way to get them to open up in future is to disguise myself as a Starbucks employee, as Reddit user MikEhBlue discovered when Casey Hudson, executive producer of the Mass Effect franchise at BioWare, walked into the Seattle coffee shop he works in.

MikEhBlue had this to say bout his brush with the mastermind behind Mass Effect: “He was really cool, nice and chill/relaxed. Was saying how much I loved Mass Effect, and he said, well, ‘There’s LOTS more to come’”, going on to say that “I had a feeling from the look in his eye there was more to it, such as another game in the ME universe (very likely from the sounds of things)”.

Here’s Casey and MikeEhBlue bonding over the coffee:

Hudson isn’t the only member of the Mass Effect 3 team to regularly blurt out info patronise his coffee house either. Over the previous days, several BioWare employees had been in, and hinted that there would be more single-player content on the way, saying “We’re always working on more stuff”.

So there we have it: all this tapping away on keyboards, chasing up PRs and attending packed press events has been the wrong approach for getting the skinny on what’s going down in BioWare land. Next time, I’ll have to remember to bring a steaming hot cup of java with me.
